25th February 2016 – The Eyes Have It

This painting I saw today in the Guildhall Art Gallery really captures the madness of Clytemnestra I think. This is what happens if you're forced into a marriage with the man who murdered your first husband, told to send your daughter away to be married to aprince only to find out your husband sacrificed her for favourable winds, and then when he returned to you after battle, he brought his new mistress back too. Bad things happen, and they happen with an axe and this expression.
